This week in our MSC Breakdown, we look at a variety of games that coaches can use as player start arriving at training in order to get the energy levels high and prepare players for the session ahead. High tempo arrival games can be a fantastic opportunity for the coach to give some ownership to the players as they enjoy the exercise and the ability to have fun and compete with their teammates. Exercises can be structured where the coach does not have to focus on correction but more in terms of flow and organization, allowing the players to play with high levels of freedom before the session starts.
In this week's MSC Breakdown below, we take a look at different ideas and how to introduce them. Please subscribe to our YouTube page if you enjoy it.
You can also get the breakdown for each exercise below.
2v2 into 1v1 Game
Game takes place in a 15x20 yard area, with two 5 yard corridors alongside it
Players work in pairs with a traditional 2v2 where defenders play the ball to attackers and then go to close down
Immediately following the attack, players sprint to the wide zones for a 1v1 contest
Defenders become attackers and look to score on the dribble
Attackers become defenders and look to press high
Play 4x3 minute games and switch roles
Back to Back Goal Game
Players are organized into two teams
Game takes place inside a 25x25 yard area with two mini goals in the middle facing away from each other
Teams play 4v4 and look to score in opponents goal
No GKs so coaches may have to encourage players to defend away from the mini-goal
2v2v2 Multi-Directional Game
Players are organized into four teams
Game takes place inside a 25x25 yard area with each team defending one mini-goal and attacking another
As the game starts, two 2v2 games are going on at the same time but in different directions
Players must solve the chaos to score and defend effectively
